However, every Mumin certainly knowsthat names and the ceremony preceding the Chatti Rasam (naming ceremony) bear profound effect on the overall life of the person named.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Nomenclature is the science of naming species of different organisms, as well as minerals and plants. Scientists have named each species according to its characteristics, features and explicit properties. Organisms are named based upon the anatomy and physiology of different species.<\/p>\n<p>Anthroponymy is the study of naming humans. It is observed that in humans the naming of their young ones is not void of reason. People select names on the basis of patterns and preferences. For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Meaning of the name<\/li>\n<li>Name of an admired person<\/li>\n<li>A name that will bring luck and favour to the child<\/li>\n<li>A name that relates to the circumstances or reminds one of a specific phenomenon<\/li>\n<li>Physical characteristics and personal qualities of the person named<\/li>\n<li>Time of the birth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When, flora and fauna are named with reasons behind them; how can a Mumin, the ultimate goal of all creation be named without any wisdom or reason behind it?<\/p>\n<p>Annals of Dawat\u2019s history bear testimony to the fact that Awliya\u2019ullah\u00a0<sup>AS\u00a0<\/sup>have laid strong emphasis on naming the new-born with the names of HudaatKiraam<sup>AS<\/sup>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Allah Ta\u00b4ala informed Nabi Adam <sup>AS<\/sup> about the derivation of the holy names of Panjatan Paak\u00a0<sup>AS<\/sup>.<\/li>\n<li>Moulatona Amenah\u00a0<sup>AS<\/sup> was instructed by an angel in her dream to name her to-be born child \u201cMohammed\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Jibra\u2019eel came with the names of Moulana Imam Hasan\u00a0<sup>AS<\/sup> and Moulana Imam Husain <sup>AS <\/sup>on a piece of silk from <em>jannat<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Syedna Abdeali Saifuddin <sup>RA<\/sup> changed the name of Syedna Abdulqadir Najmuddin\u00a0<sup>RA<\/sup> from \u201cYusuf\u201d to \u201cAbdulqadir\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Syedna Taher Saifuddin <sup>RA<\/sup> named Maulana al-Hayy al-Muqaddas \u201cMohammed\u201d to beseech\u00a0<em>barakat<\/em> and <em>yumn<\/em> from the holy names of Syedna Mohammed Badruddin\u00a0<sup>RA<\/sup> and Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin <sup>RA<\/sup> (the 46\u00a0<sup>th<\/sup> and the 49\u00a0<sup>th<\/sup>Dai al-Mutlaqs respectively)<\/li>\n<li>Syedna Taher Saifuddin <sup>RA<\/sup>\u00a0 wrote the name of Syedna AaliQadr Mufaddal Saifuddin\u00a0<sup>TUS\u00a0<\/sup>by his own hands: \u201cAaliQadr Mufaddal\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In one of his counsels to Mumineen Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin <sup>RA\u00a0<\/sup>stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe first thing we should teach our children is to recite the names of \u00a0Panjatan Paak\u00a0<sup>AS<\/sup>. When a child starts to learn to speak, he should be taught to say the pious names of \u201cYa Ali\u201d and Imam Tayyib\u00a0<sup>AS<\/sup>. This will lead to the <em>barakat<\/em> of Panjatan Paak\u00a0<sup>AS<\/sup> reaching his soul.<\/p>\n<p>The names of our children should be [the names] of Panjatan Pak, A\u2019immat Tahereen, Du\u00b4at Mutlaqeen and Anbiyaa\u2019 Kiraam\u00a0<sup>AS<\/sup>. Others are others. We are Mumineen. There is no comparison.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mumineen are habituated to seek the name of their child from Dai al-Zaman\u00a0<sup>TUS<\/sup>. Names given by Awliya\u2019ullah\u00a0<sup>AS<\/sup> have far-reaching effects on a <em>mumin<\/em>. Apart from having a link witha specific occasion, day or date, etc., these names certainly bring good fortune and <em>barakat<\/em>. There are numerous instances which endorse the transformation brought forth by the change of name in times of illness, misfortune and other difficulties.<\/p>\n<p>Syedna al-Dai al-Ajal\u00a0<sup>TUS<\/sup> refers to many names that have a cultural dimension attached to them, like; Elizabeth, Khurshid Husain, etc. He has repeatedly directed Mumineen to refrain from such names due to the cultural impact and has emphasizedMumineen to have names that reflect Thaqaafat Fatemiyah.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Maula\u00a0<sup>TUS\u00a0<\/sup>narrated the example of a Mumin couple who have three children named Sakina, Munira and Burhanuddin. Since they kept these names with the <em>raza mubarak<\/em> of Dai al-Zaman, one <em>barakat<\/em> they received was that the initials of these three names make up SMB, the initials of Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin <sup>RA<\/sup>. The very presence of their children has become for them a reminder of Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin\u2019s <sup>RA<\/sup> endless benevolence.<\/p>\n<p>May Allah protect Fatemi Thaqaafat in our children for generations to come. May He grant our Maula Syedna AaliQadr Mufaddal Saifuddin\u00a0<sup>TUS<\/sup> the custodian of Fatemi Thaqaafata long life till the day of Qiyaamat<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s in a name!\u201d goes the quote.
