The month of Shehrullah al Mu\u00b4azzam is upon us once again. Our days are spent cleansing our bodies and purifying souls, while, our nights are spent in \u00b4ibaadat. \u00a0Rasulullah SA<\/sup> states, \u2018spread goodwill and peace by reciting salaam, engage in feeding others, ensure good relations with kin and pray namaaz<\/em> at night while others sleep; you will enter jannat<\/em> in peace. Of the countless salaams we pray throughout each night of Shehrullah, Shafa\u00b4, <\/em>Watr and Julus hold a unique significance.<\/p>\n

Allah Ta\u00b4ala and His Awliyaa\u2019 Kiraam AS<\/sup> have always emphasized the importance of praying these salaams. Rasulallah SA<\/sup> stated that while \u201cWatr is not compulsory, it is sunnat.\u201d<\/em> Moulana Ali AS<\/sup> instructs \u201cNever forget to pray watr<\/em> namaz.\u201d \u201cIf the sun rises, and you have not yet prayed Watr, do so regardless.\u201d Watr should be prayed whether you are at home or travelling.<\/p>\n

Shafa\u00b4 consists of two rak\u00b4<\/em>at<\/em>, Surat al-\u2018Aa\u00b4ala is to be recited in the first and Surat al-Kafiroon in the second. Shafa\u00b4 is followed by Watr, the only namaz which has one rak<\/em>\u00b4at<\/em>. In this rak<\/em> \u00b4at<\/em>, Surat al-Ikhlaas is recited. \u00a0Just as \u2018Allahumma Inna Nahmadoka<\/em>\u2019 is prayed during Fajar namaz<\/em>, one prays a qunoot<\/em> in Watr. However, in Watr, after completing your ruk\u00b4u one raises their hands to their ears, recites \u201csam\u00b4e allaho leman hamedah rabbana laka al-hamd<\/em>\u201d and then prays the qunoot<\/em>: Allahumma Innaka Tara. <\/em>After doing so, he says \u201cAllaho Akbar\u201d and goes into sajdah<\/em>.\u00a0 \u00a0Julus is also two rak<\/em> \u00b4at<\/em> which is prayed in a seated position.<\/p>\n

\u2018Allahumma Innaka Tara\u2019<\/em>, prayed by Ahl al-Bayt AS<\/sup>, is a beautiful and earnest expression of devotion to Allah Ta\u00b4ala, which begins with the following supplication:<\/p>\n

\u2018O! Allah Ta\u2019ala, you see us but we cannot behold you. You reside in the loftiest of places. Your hands hold the reins of life and death. O Allah, we request your protection lest we stray from the righteous path. Each of our good deeds is for you, and they lead us closer to you; we march towards you; we crane our necks towards you; we extend our hands towards you; and we do du\u00b4aa\u2019<\/em>. O Allah, our hearts move in your direction, our eyes are lowered in reverence of Your greatness, and we humble ourselves before You.<\/p>\n

In the second part of the qunoot<\/em>, we present our grievances to Him, lamenting the dominance of those who wish to harm us.<\/p>\n

\u2018Our numbers are few and our hearts are not in unison. Nevertheless, we are grateful to you. O Allah, we beseech you to pray salawaat<\/em> upon Aimmat Tahereen AS<\/sup> and aid them in each of their endeavors and by virtue of them all those who profess their mohabbat<\/em>.<\/p>\n

After expressing our gratitude for Imam al-Zaman AS<\/sup>, we beseech Allah to:<\/p>\n

\u2018\u2026unite our hearts in the\u00a0taa<\/em>\u00b4<\/em>at<\/em>\u00a0of Imam al-Zaman, and protect us from\u00a0enemies. May the faith in our hearts stay forever strong and firm. Shower us with blessings,\u00a0radiance, knowledge and understanding. Always lead us towards\u00a0Siraat-e-Mustaqeem,\u00a0the one true path to jannat<\/em>. Ameen. O Allah, in life and in death, we beseech you for hasanaat <\/em>(meritorious deeds), and we seek salvation from hellfire\u2019.<\/p>\n

Throughout this holy month, we engage in countless hours of \u2018ibaadat<\/em>, even during the darkest hours of night. Shafa\u00b4, Watr and Julus become part of our daily routine. However, when the month comes to an end, let the instructions and words of Allah Ta\u00b4ala, Rasulallah SA<\/sup>, Moulana Ali AS<\/sup> and Imam J\u00b4afar al-Sadiq encourage us to adhere to the principles of \u00b4ibaadat<\/em> so that we may continue to pray these salaams<\/em> throughout the year until the month of Shehrullah dawns upon us once more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
